Positive parents on the sideline, on the way to a tournament, on the ride home- we salute you!

USA Volleyball Chief of Sport, Dr. Peter Vint, explains how he learned to communicate with his own kids about team sports. Six little words and a perspective shift changed his car rides home.

I REALLY LOVE WATCHING YOU PLAY.

Parents, pleaee be careful what you say, how your body language appears on the sidelines, and watch how your reactions affect your child and their teammates.

Remember, there are cameras everywhere that catch all of our reactions, pick up what we say- kids will see and hear that when they’re reviewing film later.

I suggest you do your best to stay positive and support the team as we all work to improve as a whole. This is your most important role in the C2 family. This team and these athletes are all a work in progress.

Going into a season, there’s no promise of massive success or a roster full of olympians- don’t put that pressure on your child or their teammates and coaches. It’s not always about winning- and this is coming from a competitor! I love to win! We are all trying to win, of course. That is the definitely a solid goal, but it’s the growth within each individual, including our athletes, parents and coaches, that changes lives.

Practically speaking, look to the parents who’s children have been recruited to play college ball. You’ll find most of them are either mild on the sidelines or very positive, cheering on the team. They know something very important- college coaches and recruiters are looking for families that will fit with their program, families that are positive and supporting, and families they will enjoy spending time with over the next four years.

I have personally seen an athlete lose an opportunity because the college coach saw something in their parents’ behavior on the sideline they didn’t like. Don’t be that toxic  parent. If your child has aspirations to play at the next level, this positivity from you is paramount!

Lastly, thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for becoming a part of our C2 family with your child. Your presence and participation matter! We are so grateful for every family and every athlete. Please hear our hearts as we send out this message- this message struck a chord with us as parents, and we believe it will with you too.

C2 APPAREL POLICY

All C2 players are aware of the rules & regulations when you committed to C2. This includes on planes, trains and automobiles plus in the hotel, at your court and when watching other C2 teams.  You must have C2 visible.

If you have a C2 hoodie on and take it off… put it around your waist, logo out, so you can REPRESENT. Keep it visible!  We even have tattoos :) These are great for beach events!

The only time you are allowed to wear something other than C2 apparel at C2 events is when you communicate to C2 coach/directors that you are having a dressed up dinner or special occasion.

If a coach or director sees you, you will be asked to put C2 gear on.  If you neglect to follow the rules, the consequences will be limited playing time.  This hurts you and your team.

There is no excuse of “I don’t have anything C2 to wear”… do your laundry.  You (not your parents) are to be responsible and prepare your C2 wardrobe for these events.

This is also great practice and discipline to respect the rules.  If you play in college and you show up (even to get on the bus) you will be asked to leave the bus and you will not be allowed to go to the game.

All top clubs have this requirement- it's nothing new or unusual.

So to sum it all up:

1. You were chosen to be a part of our club. Wearing our logo is an honor.

2. Following the rules and showing that you are disciplined is a reflection on your family, your club and coaches, but ultimately YOURSELF.

3. Being responsible and keeping up with your apparel, including making sure it is clean and packed is a sign of maturity, and is ultimately the athlete's duty.

WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU! We want to show you off, and hope you feel that same pride for your club.

Parent Involvement

Parents can play many roles in sport: current or former athlete, coach, fan, motivator, role model or critic. A few studies have shown that family members may influence an athlete’s involvement and achievement in sport more than coaches. Parents also are the first and most critical agents at socializing sports.   Please look over the Player / Parent Commitment form you will be asked to agree to at the time of your commitment to C2.

PARENTS AND ATHLETES

Parents and athletes need to manage their SportsEngine accounts to ensure they get the most out of their C2 Attack Volleyball Club experience during each sporting season. With their accounts properly configured, athletes and their families will receive communications according to their preferences and be able to complete registrations more efficiently.  SportsEngine has created a Team Management Guide for Parents and Athletes that will help our members with frequently asked questions about our website and mobile app.
